I think Iqbal destroyed the carpet because he cared about the other kids and he didn't want to leave them suffering.

I think Iqbal destroyed the carpet because he might have wanted to be put in the tume because maybe in the tume there might have been a window or tunnel in there and the kids or master did not know about it and only he knew about it because maybe heard about it in his old factory and so in his old factory he tride to get fired so he can come to this factory and get throwen in this tume so he can get out and to his factory that's what I think.

i think that Iqbal destroyed the carpet because the people that work the slaves give Iqbal attention and if he destroyed the carpet the people that work the slaves will give everyone else attention

I personally think a lot of things about Iqbal destroying the carpet. Let's face it, we know that none of the children actually like master, but Iqbal H-A-T-E-S him. "The dept is never erased." "I'm going to run away any take you with me." What does that tell us, Hmmm? Iqbal is a rebellious kid, we all know that as well. In any action-rebellion book, the rebel(s) do something outrageous, and this is what Iqbal did. He didn't do this to just any carpet, either, he did it to the ONLY thousand-dollar carpet in the ENTIRE FACILITY. While the foreigners were there. This was carefully planned out. He wanted to do the one utmost banned thing to make master mad, and show the foreigners (Who have the power to sue people,) His true colours.

I think that Iqbal destroyed the carpet because he didn't want to make the other kids think that he was better than everyone else. Or, as Leila said, that in the tomb there may have been a window that he could escape through.

I think Iqbal destroyed the carpet because he was in there working as a slave for too long. Also maybe he knew his family was not coming back for him. He was angry.

I think that Iqbal destroyed the carpet because there was so much pressure on him making the carpet that he decided that he didn't want the responsibly all on him. So he cut the carpet to state that yes he is very talented at carpet making but he knew making this carpet wouldn't pay all of his dept off, and he would be stuck there forever. Also I think he has learned that all of the masters just want money, so he knew if he had this carpet they would get lots of money but he would still be paying off his family's dept.

I think Iqbal destroyed the carpet because he wanted the master to look bad, and that would lead them to being free because the other review people would give the master a bad review.

I agree Abby that Iqbal ripped the carpet to make the master look bad and that will not be good, for the master. For Iqbal destroying that carpet that could probably free all the slaves because it would give the master a horrible review to the people who came. P.S does anyone know what the people's name was who came to do the review on the master, I forgot.

I think Iqbal tore the carpet in two because it was part of his escape plan. Hmmmm, or maybe Iqbal is trying to do just so many bad stuff, the master will just sell him away, and when he leaves, he will somehow take Fatima with him without anyone noticing. Another reason could be that Iqbal is trying to teach the master a lesson, like bonded labour is not nice, and what is Husain Khan and Iqbal switched lives. Who knows what Iqbal has up his sleeve, well what ever it is, its probably goooood. I found a video on youtube about Iqbal and the story of his life and how he really motivated people to free the children( no abusive language or inappropriate scenes).
